As you all know, Shakori Hills is a very special place that brings together music and dance fans twice a year to celebrate life and art.

Below is a listing of some of the programs provided to area schools through Shakori Hills’ Roots in the Schools: May, 2019. Diali Cissokho (of Diali Cissokho & Kaira Ba) performed Thursday, May 2 at Silk Hope School and Siler City Elementary School. The Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance will have its 16th annual fall festival from Oct. 3 to 6. The four-day event is held in Pittsboro, N.C. on the grounds outside the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center. Headliners for this fall’s festival include Galactic and the Ryan Montbleau Band.

David Dean, director of marketing for the event, said he is excited for this fall’s festival.

“The fall event is in its 16th year,” Dean said. “We do two festivals per year, one the first weekend in May and one the first weekend of October. It started with the spring event 17 years ago and a year later, we added the fall event.”
One unique aspect of the GrassRoots Festival is that it is nonprofit. The concert’s proceeds go toward the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center’s year-round programming.
